1. The story starts about 2000 years ago when the people of the Holy Land were governed by the Romans.

2. In the village of Nazareth, lived a young woman called Mary, who was engaged to a carpenter named Joseph.

3. The angel Gabriel came to Mary and told her that God had chosen her to be the mother of his son!

4. Mary said “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said come true.”

5. The angel also appeared to Joseph and told him not to be afraid but to marry Mary and name her baby Jesus.

6. About the time that Mary was due to give birth, Emperor Augustus sent out an order that everyone must return to the town of their birth to be taxed.

7. So Mary and Joseph had to make the long journey to Bethlehem.

8. Mary and Joseph packed their bags and travelled by donkey to Bethlehem.

9. When Mary and Joseph arrived in Bethlehem, they looked for somewhere to stay, but all the inns were full.

10. An innkeeper took pity on them and let them stay in his stable.

11. In the stable there was a manger, an ox and a donkey.

12. Mary gave birth to a baby boy and wrapped him in strips of cloth and laid him in the manger.

13. In the hills nearby, some shepherds were looking after their sheep.

14. The shepherds saw a bright light and the sky was filled with singing angels.

15. The angels sang” Glory to God in the Highest” They told the shepherds that the saviour had been born and that they would find him in a manger in Bethlehem!

16. Amazed the shepherds made their way to Bethlehem to visit the baby Jesus.

17. A star appeared in the sky, a sign that a great king was about to be born.

18. Some wise men from the East, saw the star and began to follow it.

19. They thought he would be found in a palace, but he wasn't.

20. The king at the palace sent the wise men off again to find the new king.

21. The wise men followed the star all the way to Bethlehem, where it stopped over the stable.

22. The wisemen presented gifts of gold frankincense and myrrh to the baby Jesus.

23. In a dream an angel told the wisemen not to tell king Herod about the baby Jesus but to go home by a different route.

24. As we prepare to open presents and enjoy Christmas day, Let’s remember God’s gift to the world- Jesus.
